About

I'm Adam B. Johnson

I’m a licensed counselor, and proud to live and work in Birmingham, Alabama.

  • My Journey

I became a counselor to help make a difference, the way my counselor did for me.

My journey began with managing my own mental health, living with anxiety and fear, and struggling with depression. Therapy brought lasting change, revealing my natural empathy and passion for helping others heal.

  • My Work Experience

I've worked in many service roles, but nothing compares to counseling.

I believe we are all emotionally and spiritually connected, with an innate ability to care for one another. My goal is to empower clients to heal themselves first so they can confidently extend that healing to others.

I once considered working in the ministry but found my beliefs didn’t always align with some of my peers and elders, leaving me discouraged. It’s hard to put into words the conflict that created in my spiritual life. It can leave one feeling broken and isolated. I found my way back to my faith, realizing I wasn’t broken after all. Eventually, I found my true calling—helping people realize they were never broken, just in need of care and guidance to heal and be their true selves.

  • About Me

Regardless of race, faith, sexual identity, or gender, you deserve to be treated as the worthy human being that you are. As a proud LGBTQ+ ally with family in the community, I know Alabama isn’t always welcoming, but my office is. It brings me great joy to help others embrace who they are.

On a personal note, I’m a lifelong Star Wars fan (raised by the films in the ’80s!) and a passionate music lover who once majored in music.

If you’re ready to break free from the cycle of trauma, sadness, and worry, I’d be honored to work with you. Contact me for a free consultation—I can’t wait to help you on your journey.

  • My Journey

I became a counselor to help make a difference, the way my counselor did for me.

For me, counseling was a calling. As a child, I witnessed how severe mental illness can affect both individuals and their families. This experience sparked my passion for mental health and ignited a life-long mission. From a young age, I have been an advocate for mental health awareness, openly speaking out about the importance of removing the stigma surrounding struggles with depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.

Counseling might have been my calling, but it took time for me to answer. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in various fields, hesitating to take the leap.

Struggling with anxiety myself, I found the encouragement I needed through my own therapist, who empowered me to pursue my dream of becoming a counselor. Now, my passion lies in helping others find their own inner peace.

Counseling opened the door to some lasting change. Through my own counseling, I discovered I had a knack for empathy and compassion. I discovered a desire to help others find some relief from their suffering.

  • My Work Experience

My goal as a counselor is to create a judgment-free environment where people feel safe to be their authentic selves. I want my clients to feel comfortable sharing both their struggles and victories without fear, knowing they are accepted. In this space, you will learn to focus on self-improvement and develop skills that empower you to embrace your true self—at all times.

As an LGBTQIA+ ally, I am committed to providing a welcoming and affirming space. Many of my chosen family are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, and I understand the challenges of living in the South. Together, we can work on building confidence to face those challenges while staying true to who you are.

  • About Me

The number of hobbies and interests I’ve had over the years is long, but my one true love has always been music. The “fringe” culture of the ‘90s and early 2000s—punk, grunge, emo, post-hardcore, and metal—was my scene. It’s where I found my people and discovered my voice.

If you find yourself feeling exhausted from life and ready for change, I would be honored to work with you. Contact me for a free consultation. I look forward to meeting you.

I'm Jillian Littlefield

I’m a licensed counselor, and proud to live and work in Birmingham, Alabama.

  • My Journey

I was born in Anniston, Alabama, and raised in Hoover. My passion for psychology and mental health began in high school when I started my own therapy journey. I was fortunate to receive services from an incredible therapist who guided me through self-discovery—a journey that continues to this day.

I pursued a psychology major in college and had the privilege of learning from Dr. Susan Vaughn at the University of Montevallo, who inspired me to add social work as a double major. Although I ultimately earned my master’s in counseling, the core values of social work—service, social justice, dignity, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence—continue to shape my approach as a counselor.

  • My Work Experience

I specialize in working with individuals in recovery from substance use disorders and their families. Addiction impacts every aspect of a person’s life, and a strong support network is crucial. I aim to be a valuable part of that network, offering guidance and support to clients at all stages of recovery.

Additionally, I work with a wide range of mental health concerns, including:

    âś” Anxiety disorders

    âś” Depression

    âś” Bipolar disorder

    âś” ADHD

    âś” Body image issues

    âś” Relationship issues

    âś” Grief & trauma

    âś” Substance use disorders

For members of the LGBTQIA+ community seeking a safe and affirming space, I provide assessments for gender-affirming healthcare or surgery and write referral letters for those in need.

  • About Me

My goal as a counselor is to co-create a safe physical and psychological space where clients feel comfortable beginning or continuing their healing journey. Human beings are beautifully complex, and I firmly believe in our capacity for growth and transformation when we feel safe and supported.

I bring my authentic self to every session, and I love witnessing my clients do the same.

  • Education & Licensure
