Therapy for Spiritual Trauma in Birmingham, Alabama

You’re traumatized by spiritual abuse.

Spiritual abuse is when someone uses spiritual beliefs to control, scare or hurt someone else. For example, if you were forced to participate in religious practices as a child against your will, that may mean you were spiritually abused. Spiritual abuse can also happen when your core values don’t match what you hear in sermon and suddenly you become an outcast or demonized in your own religion.

Has your faith been damaged due to events?

Were you abused by religious figures, or raised with an overbearing representation of a spiritual belief? Such an upbringing can cause a lot of damage, and result in what’s known as spiritual abuse.

Spiritual abuse can be hard to identify and even harder to speak up about. However, if you have experienced it, it is time to shed the shame and stigma that comes with it, and speak up about your experience. Only by opening up about the experience and sharing your ordeal can you begin to heal.

You deserve to find peace with yourself and your faith.

Faith-based therapy may be a solution for you if you have been spiritually abused. If your faith in religion has been shaken, contact someone who can help you – because you don’t deserve to be traumatized by spiritual abuse.

You want to heal, to find peace

It’s hard to hold onto faith when it feels like faith has let us go. We lose that sense of community that we once held close to our hearts and instead feel like lost souls on an endless journey to restore or repair our faith. You wish you could forgive and forget, and move on. You want to move past the people who abused your spirit – whether it is your parents, a loved one, a friend or a religious figure. Spiritual abuse can cause deep wounds that leave you struggling to understand what’s going on.

Spiritual wounds are not a common subject of discussion, so you may find yourself grappling with a problem that seems to not exist for others. You may find yourself hurt and bewildered at people’s inability to understand your struggles. You may have tried approaching trusted spiritual communities with the problem, only to be asked to pray about it.
